About The Feelings Lady & Ruff Ruff Remi

Dr. Danielle Budash Newkam is a dedicated psychologist and Registered Play Therapist-Supervisor (RPT-S). She loves children’s books and has combined her passion for bibliotherapy and play therapy into her therapeutic work with children.  Some kids like to call her the “Feelings Lady” because she talks a lot about feelings. Throughout her professional career, Dr. Newkam has always dreamed of writing a children’s book of her own.  With help from her collaborators, 3Kiddos Publishing and The Italic Illustrator, that dream has come true.  Dr. Newkam released her debut title, Ruff Ruff Remi Teaches Relationship Tools, in March 2023. She has written and added several books and an activity book to the Ruff Ruff Remi series.

Remington, otherwise known as Remi, is the star character in the stories and in Dr. Newkam’s life. Remi is the Newkam family Labradoodle, and he accompanies Dr. Newkam to work several days a week. Remi is certified through the Alliance of Therapy Dogs (ATD). In the Ruff Ruff Remi series, Dr. Newkam has turned Remi’s innate ability to console, connect, and teach students into playful, interactive stories. Remi teaches children a variety of social-emotional skills and addresses important, and sensitive topics.
